About us

Why Janus?

The mythological god ‘Janus’ (pronounced Yah-Nus) symbolises seeing where we have come from, to locate where we are, and invite new possibility. Our goal is to embrace this ethos into the development of creative, dynamic CPD which is simultaneously rooted in our histories and pertinent to current practise.

Join us in welcoming new possibilities

Why now?

Our ever evolving global, social, psychological, spiritual landscape presents challenges for us as therapists. Our undertaking at Janus is to hold these threads, and new ones as they emerge, and to greet the challenges with an openness and courage to develop personally and professionally. Our engagement with contemporary thinking and research coupled with deep knowledge of the essence of relationship, body work, creativity, and love will form the basis of our ethos whilst also inviting new possibility.

Empower - Challenge - Support.

Core education and support of therapists has been at the heart of our associated company Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute for many years. We have observed the benefits of good CPD in helping practitioners to enhance their flexibility and strengthen resilience ultimately enabling career and personal progression, and satisfaction.

With this experience as a foundation Janus will be focusing on cultivating our community of therapists beyond core training, supporting them throughout the stages of their career.

More about our CPD training

We offer a Certificate in Body Psychotherapy which runs annually as 6 x three day weekend workshops from January to July with experienced trainer Dr David Tune. David also offers a one weekend introduction to bodywork: 'Working creatively with the body'.

This 2-day in-depth workshop with Rosemary Langford-Bellaby will explore Psychosexual difficulties and this complex and multifaceted aspect of human behaviour and identity. We will look at the impact of trauma, ethical considerations, sexual dysfunction, holistic health, client diversity and promoting positive sexual health.

Experienced outdoor therapist Sarah Devine will be offering an in-depth two day workshop on the topic of working therapeutically outdoors.

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Supporting clients to imagine their creative postmenopause

This workshop will explore creatively imagining the last third of our lives. More than 50% of us experience menopause. Like other major life changes such as puberty, pregnancy, and infertility, menopause is rooted in the body, and experienced in the world. Much of the recent focus on menopause has looked at the problematic aspects of this life change, but the transition into postmenopause also offers a chance to imagine what else we want from our lives, how and who else we want to be. With Dr Stella Duffy.

We offer a range of workshops from a TA perspective including TA101 and Redecision Therapy delivered by experienced TA facilitator Deborah Blagden (PTSTA).

'Working with' workshops

We offer a range of bespoke CPD workshops that explore working with distinct client groups and topics such as Sexual Offenders, Self-harm, Suicide and Risk and Psychosexual Difficulties
