About this workshop

‘...there is a true and timeless Self, an Essential Self, a Self that is not constructed in early life…’ A.H.Almaas

I view psychotherapy as a sacred art of care for the human condition and the challenges and suffering with which we live. In this workshop, I will draw upon and share key elements from my book ‘An Integrative Approach to Healing Complex and Transgenerational Trauma: Psychotherapy and the Soul’ (2025, Routledge).

‘The spirit of this time is ungodly, the spirit of the depths is ungodly, balance is godly.’

C.G. Jung

There exist socio-cultural forces, such as:

  • Standardisation, Commercialisation & Manualisation
  • Identity Politics and the movement for the ‘Decolonisation’ of psychotherapy
  • Normative pressures to conform to the spirit of this time

Whilst they each have their place, they can give rise to injunctions which enter the therapy room and separate us from the depth of the intrapsychic, relational, transgenerational and spiritual dimensions of the therapeutic encounter.

The workshop will focus on psychotherapy and the soul - the care of the soul, both individually and collectively – inviting us to engage with our deepest selves, so that we can help our clients more fully towards healing and personal growth through the exploration of their personal, transgenerational, and transpersonal experiences. This includes attending to trauma wounds in need of compassionate care, and essential personal qualities awaiting realisation.

There will be a balance of theoretical input with experiential learning to help us explore what supports and sustains us in the holding of soul in our lives and our practice of a depth, relational psychotherapy. The workshop will include exercises for personal inquiry concerning one’s essential self, heart’s desires and the challenges we experience as people and practitioners.

Drawing upon the family constellations model, the work of Bako & Zano, the insights of others, and the stories woven through my own book, we will explore transgenerational trauma - how it lives in bodies, families, and lineages - and look at the pathways for healing, restoration, and release.
